XNRG Pilgrim Challenge Competitor Update 28/01/2010

It is now under 2 weeks to go until the 2010 Pilgrim Challenge. We are putting together all the final arrangements at the moment to make the weekend a fantastic one for all runners and walkers.

In this briefing we would like to just run through the procedures and timings for the 2 days.

Saturday 6
th February

0630 - first pick up from Farnham Station

0700 - registration will open

0800 - Walkers Start

0900 - Main Runners Start

1000 - Elite Runners Start

When arriving at registration, please register yourself and then proceed to pick up your race bag in the adjacent tent.

Your race bag will contain various goodies, but importantly there will be a timing chip, and race no. The chip needs to be on your person once you cross the start and your race number needs to be clearly visible from the front or back. This will aid our checkpoint staff.

Please load your overnight or spare clothes bag onto the luggage vehicle as directed.

Prior to the start you will need to visit the kit checkpoint so that we can sample your compulsory kit and mark your bag or race no. accordingly.

Please be ready to start 10 mins prior to your start time.

All the checkpoint locations / open and close times etc are on the website and will be given to you in a briefing card at the start. Please make sure you are familiar with these.

The course is hilly, but gets particularly hilly after Dorking on Day 1, this is about 20 miles in, so don't burn out to early.

You will be coming off the North Downs Way in Merstham. It is likely to be getting dark, or will be dark as most of you finish, so please make sure you are using your head torches. You will be given a route card to get you to the overnight accommodation, we will also mark the route with arrows and glow sticks.

Once you arrive at the finish you will be directed to you accommodation and showers etc.

Evening timings

1930 - Evening presentation / discussion from Mark Hines - Sports Scientist and Ultra Runner

There will be tea / coffee , other drinks and snacks available in the competitor accommodation throughout the evening. There will be a small charge for some of these items.

If you are finishing after day 1 please make sure you collect a medal and T shirt before leaving.

There will be a minibus available to take people to Merstham station throughout the evening.

If you are arriving for the Day 2 run on the Saturday evening and need picking up from the station please ring one of us on arrival and we will get a bus up to pick you up.

Sunday Morning

0600 - Breakfast available from this time / registration for Day 2 opens

0700 - Walkers Start

0800 - Main runners start

0900 - fastest 25 runners from day 1 start

Please note that it is very important you register for Day 2, even if you ran Day 1, so we know exactly who is out on the course.

The route back is the same. Checkpoint locations and open close times will be different and will be published soon.

On arrival at the finish there will be refreshments available for competitors and the massage team will be on hand.

Before you leave please make sure you have collected your T shirt and medal.

The minibus will be taking people to Farnham Station all afternoon, just keep you eye open for the bus loading up.

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO HAND YOUR TIMING CHIPS IN BEFORE YOU LEAVE ON EITHER DAY

We have just set up a forum on our website so that competitors can keep in touch and share thoughts / ideas and stories. Please register so that you can use this free facility.

Enjoy resting up this weekend and we look forward to welcoming you next weekend

Supporters and Volunteers

We are still looking for any supporters who would like to volunteer to help out over the 2 days on checkpoints or at the start / finish. The deal is that for anyone who is prepared to volunteer we will provide food and accommodation for free aswell as a few free goodies and an event T shirt.
